IQNA – Examples of cooperation based on goodness and piety, according to the Quran, are not limited to giving money and charity to the poor and needy, but as a general principle, it has a wide scope that includes social, legal, and moral issues, among others.

Holy Quran

One example of cooperation based on piety is the effort to achieve peace and reconciliation among Muslims. God says in the Quran: “Believers are indeed brothers, therefore make things right among your two brothers and fear Allah, so that you will be subject to mercy.” (Verse 10 of Surah Al-Hujurat).

The Holy Quran also uses the words “wilayah” and “tawli” in Surah At-Tawbah to refer to social cooperation and public participation, and says: “The believers, both men and women, are guides to each other. They order what is just and forbid what is evil; they establish their prayers and pay the obligatory charity and obey Allah and His Messenger.” (Verse 71 of Surah AtTawbah)

Therefore, the “wilayah” (being guide) of the believers refers to their mutual support and assistance.

Another example of cooperation in the verse is enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong in the community, which is presented as the first axis of guardianship and friendship between believers. From the perspective of Islam, the fate of society and the individual are intertwined, and therefore, in order to keep society from falling and ruining, believers must enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong.

Just as the hypocrites have friendship and cooperation with each other, but they focus on promoting immorality, commanding evil and forbidding good and withholding charity: “Be they male or female hypocrites, they are the same. They make others commit sins, prevent them from doing good deeds, and restrain their hands (from spending for the cause of God). They have forgotten all about God who also has ignored them. The hypocrites indeed are evil-doers.” (Verse 67 of Surah At-Tawbah)
