From the perspective of the Quran and Hadiths, Istighfar has a role and effect in the material and spiritual life of mankind.
In addition to eliminating sins, Istighfar keeps Satan away from us, brightens the heart, makes the light of knowledge manifest in the heart, removes sadness and grief from the heart, expands our livelihood and, in brief, prevents all kinds of material and spiritual disasters and brings all kinds of worldly and hereafter blessings to us.
Believing in the effect of spirituality on worldly life never means weakening the role of material means, but rather it means that along with material elements, spiritual factors such as Istighfar also have an effect. For example, Prophet Salih (AS) said to his people, “Why do you not ask the forgiveness of Allah, in order that you find mercy?” (Verse 46 of Surah An-Naml). Or Prophet Hud (AS) said that one of the effects of seeking forgiveness is enjoying the world and having Mata’an Hassanan, meaning a pleasant life accompanied by spiritual peace.
Seeking forgiveness at every opportunity, especially in blessed moments, has its own effects. The reason for this is that there is a creative connection between human actions and the events of his life. According to the will of God, the creation system shows an appropriate reaction in accordance with each of human actions and, according to that action, brings effects and results to the doer in this world.
