Qaris of Imam Hussein Shrine Shine in Iraq’s Nat’l Women’s Quran Contest

IQNA – Female Quran reciters of the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine’s Dar-ol-Quran House have achieved top rankings in Iraq’s seventh nationwide women’s Quran competition.

Iraq’s seventh nationwide women’s Quran competition was held in Samarra on November 12-13, 2025.

 

According to Wassam Nadhir al-Delfi, head of the Quranic Media Center of the Astan, this competition was held with the widespread participation of reciters from 10 Iraqi provinces, including Basra, Dhi Qar, Diwaniyah, Babylon, Baghdad, Najaf, Karbala, Salah al-Din, and Wasit.

He said the participation of the female Quran reciters of the Astan was outstanding in terms of number and technical level.

The ceremony honoring the best was held in the courtyard of the holy shrine in a spiritual atmosphere, and the judging committee appreciated the high level of the participants and the efforts made to hold this event, he noted.

Al-Delfi stated that at the end of the competition, the top performers in the two categories of memorization and recitation were introduced.

Duaa Maytham Abdul Zaid from the Babylon branch won first place in the memorization category, Mi’ad Saeed Khami" from the Basra branch won second place, and Zeinab Hanun Khalaf from the same branch came third, he said.

He added that in recitation, Sattar Jabbar from ​​Basra won second place, and Ma'souma Abbas Hatihat from the same branch won third place.

The competition was held by the National Center for Quranic Sciences of Iraq on Thursday and Friday (November 12 and 13) at the Al-Askari Shrine in Samarra.

“Representing Iraq; an honor for all” was the slogan of this competition.

It took place under the supervision of Haider Hassan al-Shammari, head of Iraq’s Shia Endowments Office. Female reciters and memorizers from Quranic institutes linked to Iraq’s holy shrines and religious sites took part.

The goal of these competitions was to select the best to represent Iraq in international Quran competitions.
