Kenya Quran Memorization Competition Finals Slated for Monday

IQNA – The final stage of the first edition of a Quran memorization competition for men in Kenya will take place in Nairobi tomorrow.

The contest has been organized in Kenya under the auspices of the Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance, Al-Ekhbary al-Arabya reported.

The religious attaché of the Saudi Embassy in Kenya will be present in the competition on behalf of the Saudi ministry of Islamic Affairs.

The preliminary stage of the competition was held with the participation of 373 people in different regions of Kenya, and 28 contestants advanced to the final stage.

It has been organized in four categories: Memorization of the entire Quran, memorization of 20 Juzes (parts), memorization of 15 Juzes and Memorization of five Juzes.

A specialized judging committee will evaluate the performance of the participants in the finals.

Kenya is one of the countries with a Christian majority on the African continent, and according to the 2019 census, 11 percent of its population is Muslim.

The coasts of Kenya are mostly Muslim-inhabited. Nairobi, the capital of the country, has several mosques and a significant Muslim population.

Several Quranic competitions have been held in Kenya, and in September of last year, Nairobi hosted the largest Quranic competition on the African continent, the Elite Ten Qara’at (styles of recitation) Competition, which was organized by the Muslim World League with the participation of Sheikh Muhammad bin Abdul Karim al-Isa, President of the Union of Muslim Scholars, and a large number of Quran memorizers and African scholars.
