Justice Served: Advocacy Group Hails Sentencing in NY Anti-Muslim Subway Assault

IQNA – More than three years after a hate-fueled assault on the New York City subway, a man has been sentenced for the attack, in which he allegedly punched a victim while hurling anti-Muslim remarks.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR)

 

The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY), a chapter of the United States’ largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, on Tuesday welcomed sentencing of a man for the 2022 subway attack.

At that time, CAIR-NY welcomed the NYPD’s hate crime investigation into the attack.

In a statement, Afaf Nasher, Esq., Executive Director of CAIR-NY, said:

“We welcome the sentencing in this case as an important step toward accountability and justice. Hate-motivated violence has no place in New York City or anywhere in our society. While no sentence can undo the harm caused by such an attack, this outcome sends a clear message that acts driven by anti-Muslim hatred will be taken seriously and addressed through the justice system. We commend law enforcement and prosecutors for pursuing this case and urge continued vigilance in responding to bias-motivated crimes.”
