In his letter, Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Mehdi Imanipour referred to the recent riots in Iran, during which religious sanctities and values were desecrated, and highlighted the role of the US and the Zionist regime in the riots.
He noted that attacking religious sites and insulting religious sanctities is against all international laws and conventions and has been frequently condemned by religious leaders, political officials and cultural figures.
However, he said, we have witnessed frequent attacks on mosques and holy sites in Iran in recent days.
Definitely, such measures are incompatible with the beliefs and mentality of the civilized Iranian nation and undoubtedly have foreign roots, he stated.
Hojat-ol-Islam Imanipour added that it is the religious and moral responsibility of all religious leaders to not remain silent in the face of such criminal acts but to decisively defend common values and the sanctity and security of religious sites.
