Abdul Latif Mirasa, the foundation’s chief executive, recently talked about the challenges on the path of the center’s establishment.

He said the goal behind setting up such a center was serving the Book of God, Al Jazeera reported.

Now, he said, it publishes the Holy Quran’s translations in more than 50 languages.

“We began this path 40 years ago, when I was young. At the time, I was a minister in Penang and Anwar Ibrahim was the deputy minister of the state. We worked together and printed the first copy of the Quran in 1997, naming it the Mus’haf of Malaysia, because it was scribed by Malaysian calligraphers.”

He said the goal was to make the Mus’haf have unique style and appearance and be a symbol of Malaysia’s culture and art.

All in all, it took them 10 years and many visits to museums and Quranic centers as well as meetings with Quranic arts experts to complete the Mus’haf, he noted.

According to Mirasa, despite the challenges and difficulties on the way, all of those involved in creating the Mus’haf worked with love and devotion.

He also noted that a college of calligraphy was later established to teach Quranic calligraphy and arts related to Islamic scripts and designs.
