The Al-Quds Governorate has condemned the moves, warning that such actions pose a serious threat to the sanctity of the site.
In a statement, the governorate described these attempts in the Old City of Jerusalem al-Quds as part of efforts to impose new religious rituals during the upcoming Passover period.
According to the statement, the initiatives aim to use religious practices as a tool to alter the historical and religious status of Al-Aqsa Mosque. The reported plans include carrying out ritual animal slaughter within the mosque’s courtyards, which authorities say could further escalate tensions.
The governorate also warned about the activities of groups commonly referred to as “Temple groups,” which it said have intensified their campaigns in recent periods. These efforts reportedly include the dissemination of AI-generated images and videos aimed at encouraging supporters to carry out such acts.
Officials stated that three attempts to conduct animal sacrifices at Al-Aqsa were recorded in 2025. In two of these incidents, animals were reportedly slaughtered and parts were brought into the compound, which authorities described as a systematic and escalating threat.
The statement further noted that such actions are linked to ideological and political agendas seeking to assert control over the site and reshape its identity.
The al-Quds Governorate warned that similar attempts could take place between April 2 and 9 during the Passover period, stressing that these developments pose a serious risk to the stability of the holy site.
