New Iraqi President Welcomes Efforts to End War
“I understand the scale of the challenges facing the country; we welcome efforts to end the war,” he said, Al-Ma'uluma reported.
“A great trust has been placed on my shoulders. I understand the scale of the challenges facing the country,” he said in a speech on Saturday.
He added, “I emphasize my commitment to cooperate with the three branches of power.”
Amedi stated that attacks against Iraq are condemned.
“We will work to defend the interests of the people of this country. Iraq is facing complex problems in various fields.”
He was sworn in Saturday in the Iraqi parliament after being elected as the country's president.
