With great respect, I write this letter to Your Excellency in a situation where your resounding voice in defense of peace and justice shines like a light in the darkness of warmongers and power-hungry people. In a world where the logic of force has replaced dialogue and the threat of the destruction of civilizations has become the normal policy of the arrogant and tyrannical president of the United States, you stood up and spoke in support of millions of homeless people, victims of war, refugees, and mothers who have lost their children in the fire of bombing.
When you called the threat of “the destruction of an entire civilization” and “aggression against other countries” completely unacceptable, you were not making a political statement, but rather a call from the moral conscience of humanity. Your Excellency, you showed that following the Gospel means standing up against the illusion of arrogant power that is the source of wars and insecurity.
The publication of the fake image of Trump in the form of Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) was an act of blasphemy and an insult to the sanctities of all divine religions and an attack on the beliefs of billions of Christians and Muslims in the world. You rightly warned that “the message of the Gospel should not be abused.” This action shows how far some in power can go in distorting the facts and insulting the sanctities for show and to deceive public opinion. But the truth is never covered up with lies and insults.
Your Excellency; You have proven that the leadership of the Church neither bows down to bullies nor remains silent to protect political interests. Trump’s insults and threats will not only not shake your position, but will increase the dignity and honor of your positions. History will remember men of peace, not those who have left nothing but shame and disgrace behind by insulting sanctities and threatening civilizations.
