
Officials of the Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University announced their official agreement to launch a specialized center for Quranic studies at the university in a meeting with a delegation from the Mauritanian “Risalat Al-Salam” Foundation, Al-Wa’am news website reported.
The center will be named “Shorfa Al-Hammadi” and will aim to strengthen Quranic research and teach Quranic sciences.
This project will be implemented in the Lokari Telikung area of Batu City, East Java, on a land area of 14,419 square meters according to the approved plans, and Maulana University has undertaken the preparation of engineering drawings and construction of the project in cooperation with the executive group PT PDC.
According to the project documentation, this center will include a set of educational and research departments, meeting halls, Quran memorization and interpretation, scientific research rooms, student dormitories, a mosque and multi-purpose spaces for holding seminars and conferences.
Serving university students and researchers in Quranic studies, providing opportunities for those interested in using Quranic educational programs, focusing on development of recitation and Tajweed skills, encouraging Quran memorization and supporting Quranic scientific research are among the stated goals of the project.

The project documents also indicate that the Center for Quranic Studies at Maulana University will strive to strengthen moderation in Islamic education through specialized academic programs, holding scientific activities, and employing modern technologies to serve Quranic studies.
Training specialized academic staff in Quranic sciences and strengthening cooperation with relevant centers and institutions with the aim of improving the quality of Quranic education and research will be among the center’s other goals.
