IQNA – A ceremony to honor the survivors and comrades of the martyrs of the attack on the heroic Dena Destroyer was held at the Quran Cultural Center in Tehran on Wednesday.

A ceremony to honor the survivors and comrades of the martyrs of the attack on the heroic Dena Destroyer was held at the Quran Cultural Center in Tehran on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

It took place with the participation of a group of Iranian officials, commanders, and Quranic activists.

During the program, the Quranic community renewed its commitment to the ideals of the 104 martyrs of this incident.

The US Navy submarine USS Charlotte fired two torpedoes at the Dena, a Wave-class frigate of the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy, in international waters near the southern coast of Sri Lanka, on March 4, that killed 104 of its crew.

The attack was carried out during the illegal US-Israeli war of aggression against Iran, violating the prohibition on the use of force outside the framework of self-defense as enshrined in the UN Charter.

The US carried out the double-tap attack on the Dena destroyer in a bid to maximize human casualties after the vessel was disabled.

In the Wednesday ceremony, eight survivors and comrades of the martyrs of the Dena Destroyer told impressive stories of the faith and sacrifice of the sailors of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Navy.

The bodies of 20 martyrs of this incident are still missing, and their families are waiting for the return of their loved ones.

At the beginning of this ceremony, Rahim Ghorbani, head of the Quran Cultural Center, said the least duty of the Quranic community is to pay tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of the brave sons of Islamic Iran, men who, with a spirit full of faith and love for the Quran, kept the flag of the Islamic Republic of Iran flying high in the farthest corners of the world.

Referring to the historic mission of the 86th Fleet, he added that the Dena Destroyer, as part of this fleet, succeeded in carrying out an unprecedented mission around the world by relying on the ability of Iranian specialists and became a symbol of the national authority and self-confidence of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Referring to his presence on this vessel once, he said the atmosphere on the Dena Destroyer was full of spirituality.

Elsewhere in the ceremony, Third Lieutenant Hamidreza Bayat, Deputy for Culture and Public Relations of the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy, noted that the Dena Destroyer’s mission was carried out completely peacefully and in line with the demonstration of the authority, capability, and message of friendship of the Islamic Republic of Iran, but on the way back, the vessel was attacked by the enemy at a distance of about two thousand nautical miles from Iranian territorial waters, and 104 of the best sons of this land were martyred.

Next, Javad Khosravi from the Public Relations Department of the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy explained the details of the rescue operation and the transfer of the bodies of the martyrs.

He said the survivors of the incident were stranded on the surface of the sea for between six and seven hours.

“Some were on boats and life jackets until a passing vessel received their emergency message and this message was transmitted to the Sri Lankan Coast Guard. Following this, two rescue vessels were dispatched to rescue the Iranian sailors.”

Khosravi added that the bodies of the martyrs and the survivors were transferred to Sri Lanka, and on March 14, the bodies of the 84 identified martyrs returned to the Islamic homeland with the coordination made.

He noted that the funeral ceremony of these martyrs was held with the presence of a large number of people in Tehran before the bodies were transferred to their hometowns for burial.
