IQNA – In a move to safeguard the sanctity of Islamic texts, the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) has emphasized that publishers of religious books establish dedicated internal control mechanisms.

Jakim has urged the National Book Council of Malaysia to remind publishers to exercise greater care when publishing religious books containing Quranic and Hadith texts.

Director‑general Sirajuddin Suhaimee said in a statement today that the department, together with state Islamic religious authorities, was ready to provide guidance to publishers of religious books to ensure publications comply with syariah (Sharia) requirements.

The remarks followed controversy over errors in a religious book written by a social media influencer.

He said the department supported the firm stance taken by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Zulkifli Hasan, who had urged publishers to preserve the sanctity of Islam and ensure religious books are reviewed by the relevant authorities.

Sirajuddin said authors must take full responsibility for the books they produce, while publishers of religious books should appoint a team of experts and personnel qualified in Islamic studies to review all religious content before publication.
