US Lawmakers Urge Ending War on Iran after Deadly Jordan Attack

IQNA – Following the deaths of three American soldiers in Iran's missile response against a US base in Jordan, political divisions and public criticism have intensified in Washington, with several lawmakers calling for an end to the war against Iran.

Some have accused US President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth of sacrificing American troops "on behalf of Israel."

Former Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene launched a sharp attack on Hegseth, arguing that the American soldiers were killed because of a war that he and Trump are waging "on behalf of Israel."

The Trump administration also faced strong criticism from Democratic lawmakers. Senator Chris Van Hollen said: "This pointless war should never have started, and it must end now."

Representative Ro Khanna also urged an immediate de-escalation and called for a swift end to the conflict.

Eearlier, Democratic Senator Chris Murphy criticized Trump's Middle East policy, saying: "Trump has reignited a full-scale war and sent fuel prices soaring. The fundamental reality is that Trump has no path to reaching an agreement with Iran."

Meanwhile, Democratic Senator Adam Schiff of California plans to introduce a new War Powers Resolution in the US Senate aimed at forcing Republicans to vote again on ending the military conflict with Iran, which has intensified in recent days.

Last June, Trump criticized Congress for passing a symbolic resolution calling for an end to the war with Iran, describing it as "badly timed and meaningless," while claiming that Iran was "cornered and ready to fall."

The US Senate later approved, by a 50–48 vote, a resolution under the War Powers Act calling for an end to any military action against Iran without explicit authorization from Congress.
