Best of Students of Iraq’s Summer Quranic Courses Honored
The Child Welfare Department of the Iraqi Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs honored the students of the course, which was held by the National Center for Quranic Sciences affiliated with the Shia Awqaf Department of the country.
The honoring ceremony took place at the ministry's headquarters in Baghdad on the occasion of Iraqi Children's Day.
It was attended by Huda Sajjad Mahmoud, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, and Rafi' al-Ameri, Director of the National Center for Quranic Sciences.

The ceremony included recitation of the Quran by a number of students from the summer Quranic courses and a tribute to Rafi al-Ameri for his efforts in organizing Quranic courses for children, nurturing Quranic talents, and collaborating with the Child Welfare Department to serve the public.
July 13, as Iraqi Children’s Day, commemorates the tragedy that occurred in 2005 in the Al-Na’iriyah area of New Baghdad, when terrorists targeted a group of innocent children as they gathered around Iraqi soldiers who were distributing gifts, resulting in the martyrdom of 34 children and the injury of dozens of others.
This crime was not just a passing incident, but became a symbol of the suffering of Iraqi children during years of violence, and was a factor in the adoption of this day as a national occasion that emphasizes the need to protect children from the ravages of war, terrorism, and conflict.
