Somalia Government Closes Quran Schools

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The government of Somalia ordered the closure of Quran schools and religious education centers for two weeks.

 

The Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs has ordered the move in a bid to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, al-Somal.net website reported.

It said in a statement that the schools and centers must remain closed for two weeks starting from March 31.

The government had earlier shut schools and universities as part of efforts to battle the virus.

Somalia is a country located in the Horn of Africa. Nearly the entire population of Somalia is Muslim.

The coronavirus outbreak that originated in Wuhan, China, has infected nearly 860,000 people around the world. The global death toll from the pandemic is now more than 42,000. Five COVID-19 cases have been reported in Somalia so far.
