Tunisia on Tuesday hosted a conference on human rights in Islam and confronting violence.

The event was organized by the Center for Studies on Islam and Democracy with the participation of university scholars and thinkers, gnet website reported.

Abdul Fatah Mouru, a founding member of En-Nihda Party delivered a speech at the conference saying that Islam never approves of violence and hatred.

He said Islam is based upon principles like peaceful coexistence, consultation and unity.

Mouru said Muslims should unite around the principle of Sharia and carried out their activities based on consultation.

He said the problem of the Muslim world today is not democracy or things like that but the main issue is internal clashes among Muslims.

He added that if the Muslim world continues its current policies, it would lead to the spread of extremist groups.

Mouru went on to say that the violence scene in some Muslim countries today is led by these extremist groups, which should be confronted.
