Islamic Unity Conference to Open in Tehran on Jan. 17

Secretary General of the Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought (FPIST) said the 27th International Islamic Unity Conference will kick off in Tehran on January 17.

Ayatollah Mohesn Araki made the remark in a press conference on Tuesday, January 7, while elaborating the programs of the international event.

He said members of the forum as well as 380 prominent Sunni and Shia and figures from 58 countries will take part in the three-day conference.

The foreign guests will arrive in Iran on Thursday, January 16, and the first program for the participants is a visit to the mausoleum of the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khomeini (RA), he stated.

Ayatollah Araki said the president of the Islamic Republic will officiate the opening ceremony on January 17.

There will be six specialized committees holding talks on Saturday and Sunday, January 18-19, on the sidelines of general assembly, he noted, adding that the committees will discuss different issues of the Muslim world, Islamic unity and the diplomacy of unity.

He also said that on the sidelines of the international conference, Tehran’s grand Mosalla (prayer hall) will host a great ceremony on Friday afternoon, January 17, celebrating the birth of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

FPIST secretary general said presenting a report on the activities of the Peace Committee, commemorating three prominent personalities of the Muslims world- late Shahid Al-Buti, Ayatollah Ma’aref, and late Qazi Hussein Ahmed, will also be among the programs on the sidelines of the conference.

He went on to say that the participants at the 27th International Islamic Unity Conference will meet with the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei at the end of the conference.
