The ceremony was attended by political, Quranic and cultural figures including Ayatollah Hashemzadeh Harisi, member of the Assembly of Experts, Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Reza Heshmati, Quran and Etrat deputy of the culture ministry, and Ahmad Masjed-Jamei, head of Tehran's Islamic Municipal Council.
The ceremony began with the playing of the Islamic Republic of Iran's national anthem and recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by prominent Iranian Qari Hossein Fardi.
Next, Hojat-ol-Islam Heshmati, who was in charge of this year's exhibition, delivered a speech in which he said the expo was received so well that the organizers decided to extendit twice.
He noted that 17 different committees and 15 headquarters cooperated to best hold the 22nd Quran exhibition.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Hojat-ol-Islam Heshmati referred to the relocation of the exhibit's venue from Imam Khomeini (RA) Mosalla (prayers hall) to the Holy Defense Garden-Museum this year, and said Tehran needs a permanent venue for a Quran and Etrat exhibition.
Later in the ceremony, 12 top participants in the second "Iranian Woman, Quranic Art" festival were honored.
The 22nd International Holy Quran Exhibition was inaugurated on Tuesday, June 24.
Several sections including children, academics, international and digital media were arranged during the exhibit.
Cultural products, books and CDs with the central theme of the Quran were also available.
The exhibit is annually mounted during the holy month of Ramadan by the culture ministry's Quran and Etrat deputy.
