--Founder of the Jameat-ol-Quran Institute called for designation of the Feast of Mab'ath, marking Prophet Mohammad's (PBUH) divine assignment to prophethood, as the national Quran day.
Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Mahdi Tabatabai told IQNA that the Mab'ath is such a great occasion and that designating the day as the national Quran day would further encourage people to hold to the teachings of the holy book.

"All the calamities that the Muslims have suffered happen because Muslims have gotten away from the teachings of the Quran. According to the Hadith, the great Prophet of Islam is reported to have complained about isolation of the Quran in the Muslim Ummah. This isolation should be stopped and designation of a national Quran day can be a step forward in this regard," he observed.

Hojat-ol-Islam Tabatabai said that honoring Quran activists, holding Quranic exhibitions and publishing Quranic books can be among the plans for the national Quran day.

He added that Quranic activities and programs should not be limited to one day. "Rather, everyday ought to be a Quranic one. Designating a day as the Quran day is just a way for reminding us that we need to get more acquainted with the teachings and concepts of the divine book."

The idea of naming a day as national Quran day, proposed by the Iranian Quran News Agency, has been welcomed by religious, cultural and political figures. There have also been calls for designation of a world Quran day.
