IQMO agreed to support the competition following talks between Sheikh Abdullah Basfar, secretary-general of the organization, and K.M. Rasheed and Nuruddin Valayil, representatives of the Islamic Center in Chalakkal.
“Sheikh Basfar has agreed to attend the Quran contest,” said Nuruddin. This is the second time the center is holding the competition. “We expect about 200 contestants to take part in the event this year,” he added.
The center has been involved in promoting Islamic education in Kerala for the past 31 years.
“We also train students to sit for civil service examinations,” said Nuruddin, adding that the center receives support from the central government in New Delhi.
The center runs a School of Quran and Science where education is given free of charge, said Nuruddin.
