The Omani Journalists Association (OJA) on Monday will organize a seminar on Islamic banking in co-operation with Meethaq for Islamic Banking in Bank Muscat.
The seminar aims to define the concepts related to the products offered by Islamic banks, the terminologies that are used and the definitions relating to Islamic banking products, such as Murabaha (Cost-plus), Ijarah (Lease), and other terminologies that have begun to emerge in the banking sector in the Sultanate after the Islamic banks started operating in the Sultanate earlier this year.
The seminar, the first to be organized by OJA in 2013, reflects its keenness to educate journalists and media workers to work more professionally and keep up with the growth and developments in various sectors, as the Islamic finance sector is gaining more attention in many Islamic countries because of its responsiveness to the aspirations of individuals or companies wanting to get financing that is consistent with Islamic law (Sharia).
The seminar will address the foundations of Islamic banking and Islamic banking products, terminologies and concepts that frequently mentioned in Islamic finance, which is a new source of financing projects in the Sultanate, whether small and medium-sized enterprises, major projects or other needs of the consumer.
