In Islamic world view, prayer and Tawakkul (putting one’s trust in God) are among the requirements for success in economic activities.
Hojat-ol-Islam Seyyed Hossein Mirmo’ezzi, academic board member of the Islamic Culture and Thought Research Center, made the remark in the 15th session of the series of forums on Islamic economics titled “Islam’s Economic Ethics”.
He said that along with labor, capital and prudence, prayer and Tawakkul are necessary for economic success.
According to the scholar, prayer has many positive effects. “Prayer is the solution for all problems and pains including physical and mental. Prayer therapy is a real )method of treatment) that has roots in verses of the Quran and Hadiths.”
He said prayer also increases Rizq (providence) and Barakat (blessing) in both personal and social domains. He noted that communal prayer is more certain to be granted.
He urged that anyone who wants to embark on an economic activity should pray and ask for God’s favor and then through prudence and diligence seek success in his activities.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Hojat-ol-Islam Mirmo’ezzi quoted the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Imam Khamenei as saying that a requirement for economic epic to be realized is having a Jihadi spirit.
“All of the factors needed for success such as Tawakkul, Shokr (gratefulness), prayer and making endeavors, can be found in Jihadi spirit. One who embarks on any kind of activity-cultural, economic or political- with a Jihadi spirit, God will help him and he will succeed.”
Hojat-ol-Islam Mirmo’ezzi referred to Tqawa (God-fearing) and acting according to the commandments of God as another requirement for economic success.
He quoted Imam Ali (AS) as saying that Tqawa means avoiding anything that leads one to sin and said that according to the Quran, God helps the ones who have Taqwa “… and know that Allah is with those who are the Al-Muttaqun (the pious- those who have Taqwa)” (Surah Al-Tawba, verse 123).
