The main rivals of the Iranian Quran reciter in Malaysia’s 55th International Quran Recitation Competition are representatives of Indonesia and the host country.
Internationally-known Iranian Qari Ahmad Abolghassemi made the remark in an interview with IQNA, adding that Mohammad Mashmoul, Iran’s contender in the international event will perform his recitation tomorrow night, July 2.
Abolghassemi is accompanying Mashmoul in Malaysia Quranic event to provide him with counseling and guidance.
He said usually there are 10 top competitors in Malaysia’s international Quran contest no matter how many countries attend the event.
“Countries whose representatives usually have good performances are the Islamic Republic of Iran, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand.”
He said Turkey, Iraq and Afghanistan, too, sometimes send good reciters to the competition but the performance of representatives of India and other Asian countries and those from Africa is not that good.
The Quran master said Mashmoul is quite ready to show a good recitation tomorrow night and that winning the top title is within his reach.
Asked about the jury panel of the contest, Abolghassemi said there are prominent Quran masters from countries like Egypt in the panel but there are some less qualified members as well.
He questioned the absence of qualified Iranian masters in the panel and said it has been mentioned to the organizers but no answer has been received.
Comparing Malaysia’s international Quran competition with Iran’s, he said until a few years ago, Iran’s competition had a lower quality but currently its quality is much higher than Malaysia’s Quranic event.
Abolghassemi also noted that the 55th edition of the international Quran competition in Malaysia begins at 20:30 every night and 6 to 7 Qaris recite the Quran each night.
There are no programs planned on the sidelines of the contest, he went on to say.
Malaysia’s 55th International Quran Recitation Competition, which kicked off at Putra Jaya Trade Center in the capital Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, June 29, will wrap up on July 7.
