Imam Khamenei Emphasizes Poets’ Responsibility towards Revolution’s Inspiring Movement

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Imam Khamenei stressed the responsibility of poets towards the Islamic Revolution’s inspiring movement and the country’s main affairs.
His Eminence made the remarks in a meeting with a number of cultural and arts figures from Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and India on Tuesday night, July 23.
The Supreme Leader described poetry as one of the highest forms of arts, adding that poets should out their precious art at the service of the great responsibilities towards the country and the revolution.
His Eminence said human feelings, yearnings and wisdom of the poet constitute the three founding blocks of a poem, noting that the two first should not be given too much attention at the expense of the third.
Imam Khamenei referred to the poetry of eminent Persian poets like Sa’adi, Hafez and Saeb, and said in the poems of these great figures one can see expression of poetic feelings and yearnings but wisdom and thought are also prevalent all over their poems.
His Eminence also underlined that inclusion of Islamic teachings, Islamic lifestyle, and wise thought in poems should not be overlooked.
The Supreme Leader highlighted the responsibility of poets about the society’s affairs and said the great movement of the Iranian nation, the Islamic Revolution and the resistance against the international domineering powers should be manifested in poems.
His Eminence added that the 8-year Sacred Defense, Jihad for building the Islamic society, Jihad for reforming the style of life, and issues like the Islamic Awakening and the Palestinian issue should also be manifested in poems.
Elsewhere in his statements, the Supreme Leader emphasized the need for more attention to poems for children and teenagers.
Prior to Imam Khamenei’s statements, a number of poets read their poems with ethical, religious, political, revolutionary and social themes.
Later, Imam Khamenei led congregational prayers and then the participants broke their fast.
