According to the website of the institute, introduction of Islamic concepts to Armenian studies and development of interfaith dialogue was the main objective of the two Armenian and Iranian parties by opening the center.
The opening ceremony of the center was attended by Aram Simonyan, the rector of the university, and representative members of the Iranian institute.
“The research institute and the university have been implementing different programs in the field of translation, science, research and education. 56 faculties function for those particular programs,” Said the university’s rector at a meeting with the Iranian delegation.
He added that the Center for Islamic Studies will work to study Islamic philosophy, literature, ethics, translation, aesthetics and other fields.
Scientific-specialized forums, educational-research workshops and publication of books and magazines on Islamic sciences will also among the activities of the center.
The cooperation in opening the center is considered as the first step in new cooperation between Iran and Armenian scientific-educational centers in Islamic researches.
Symonian said that the center which has been opened at the Iranology Department of the university will also cooperate with the Faculties of Orientalism, International Relations and Theology
In 2012 a faculty of Armenian Studies was opened at the Research Institute for Humanities and Cultural Studies in Tehran.
