Former Mufti of Egypt praised the Fatwa issued by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Imam Khamenei banning desecration of Sunni sanctities.
Speaking to Al-Arabia news network, Sheikh Ali Guma described the Fatwa as a great service to Islam and Muslims that greatly helped to boost Muslim unity.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Egyptian scholar welcomed the call by Iraqi Shia clerics on Shia preachers to avoid insulting the Sahaba (companions) in their speeches and sermons.
Sheikh Guma underlined that Sunni scholars ought to cooperate with the Shias all over the Muslim world.
He referred to his meetings with Shia scholars in different conferences and forums, noting that in these meetings Shia clerics told him that insulting the Sahaba was not a Shia practice but a plot by the enemies who do not want to see unity and solidarity among Shia and Sunni Muslims.
Sheikh Guma also said that there is no significant difference between Shias and Sunnis and that Shias’ jurisprudence is even more advanced than Sunnis’.
