Annual Quran Week Begins in Karbala

The fifth annual Quran week started in the holy city of Karbala on Saturday, September 28.
The Quranic program is organized every year by the National Center for Quranic Sciences affiliated to the Iraqi Shias Awqaf Department, the website of the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine reported.
Prominent Egyptian Quran reciter Farajullah Shazli, custodian of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalayi, head of the Shias Awqaf Department Sayyid Haydar Al-Salihi and a number of Quranic elites, university professors and religious scholars attended the opening ceremony.
Adel Al-Kinani, director of the National Center for Quranic Sciences in an address said the Quranic week includes different programs such as memorization and recitation contests.
He said eminent Quran activists from different parts of Iraq have been invited to take part in the programs.
Farajullah Shazli also addressed the ceremony describing the Quranic week as an outstanding Quranic program in Iraq.
In other news, the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) hosted a Quran recitation session on Saturday with the participation of top Quran reciters from Iraq, Egypt and Kuwait.
