Speaking to an Azeri TV network, Mohsen Pakayin said it is a positive happening for the Americans to have realized after 34 years that they cannot talks to the Iranian nation through the language of threats, IQNA’s Central Asia branch reported.
Referring to the US President Barrack Obama’s telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Hojat-ol-Islam Hassan Rouhani, Mr. Pakayin said it was unexpected not only for ordinary people abut for political analysts and diplomats as well.
He said the 34-year-long hostilities will not be resolved through a phone call but it was a positive beginning nonetheless.
He also pointed to Obama’s address at the UN General Assembly, noting that Obama said he is not seeking to overthrow the Islamic Establishment in Iran.
Pakayin said that Obama actually admitted to the US government’s failure in its attempts to do so.
He said Obama’s reference to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution’s Fatwa banning the use of nuclear weapons was also a positive step that showed the Americans may want to rectify their threat-filled approach vis-à-vis Iran.
The Iranian ambassador said the talks between Iranian and US chief diplomats in New York and the phone conversation between the two countries’ presidents could be the beginning of a trust-building approach which will be in the interest of both countries if it leads to the resolution of the nuclear issue.
