Cultural and Social Deputy of the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization Hojat-ol-Islam Sharafkhani made the announcement in an interview with IQNA, adding that the organization holds the ritual in Imamzadehs across the country with the aim of raising insight and enhancing the spirit of worshipping God.
He said the rituals will be accompanied with speeches and sermons by religious scholars and eulogy recitations by eulogists.
According to the official, the ceremonies in some of the holy sites will be broadcast by the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB).
The Day of Arafah is an Islamic holy day in which the verse of the Quran was revealed which explained that is said that the religion had been perfected. It falls on the 9th day of Dhul Hijjah of the lunar Islamic calendar. The day after is Eid Al-Adha.
There are numerous virtues of the 9th of Dhul Hijjah which is known as yawm al-‘Arafah. This is the day where the pilgrims assemble on the plain of ‘Arafah to complete one of the essential rituals of the Hajj.
From among the many merits of this day, a few are that this is the day the religion was perfected and the blessings of Allah were complete. The following verse was revealed to the Holy Prophet (PBUH) on the day of ‘Arafah: Allah says “Today, I have perfected your religion for you, and have completed My blessing upon you, and chosen Islam as Dīn (religion and a way of life) for you”. (Al Maedah: 3)
Imam Hussain (AS) recited the Arafah supplication during his pilgrimage to Mecca on the ninth of Dhul Hijjah, and it has been recited by Shia Muslims ever since.
