Esmaeelzadeh’s Azeri Translation of Quran, Eloquent, Away from Sectarian Biases
In order to answer the need of Azeri Muslims, Rasool Esmaeelzadeh rendered a new translation of the Quran into Azeri Turkish.
Mr. Esmaeelzadeh’s rendition is fluent and eloquent and remains away from sectarian biases.
There are more than 100 renderings of the Holy Quran into different Turkish dialects, 10 of which are in Azeri Turkish.
Some of the Azeri translations are at a very good level in terms of conveying the meaning and exact choice of equivalents but are weak in terms of fluency and eloquence.
The more contemporary renderings are quite eloquent and easy to read but have shortcomings in terms of accuracy and exact choice of equivalents for the Quranic words. Another weakness of these translations is the influence of sectarian biases.
That was why Esmaeelzadeh decided to present a new translation of the Holy Book into Azeri Turkish to meet the needs of Azeri Muslims. In his rendering, he has tried to avoid the shortcomings and weaknesses of the previous translations while retaining their positive aspects.
Esmaeelzadeh is a graduate of Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), law, and Turkology. He has published the translation in three scripts: Turkish, Latin, and Cyrillic.
Esmaeelzadeh was born in 1964 in the village of Duzal in Iran’s East Azarbaijan province. He pursued seminary studies at Qom Seminary along with his academic studies.
He has authored numerous books and papers in Azeri, Persian and Kazakh on issues like elegy in Azarbaijan, translation of the Quran into Azeri and Persian translation of Nahj-ul-Balaqa.
