Final Stage of Nat’I Quran Competition Kicks off in Kuwait

The final stage of the 18th edition of national Quran memorization and Tajweed competition in Kuwait began on November 24.


According to Alaan newspaper, “Qaf wal-Quran Al-Majeed” is the motto of this edition of the competition organized by the secretariat of Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.

Kuwait Grand Mosque, the largest and the official mosque in the country, is hosting the national event.

The opening ceremony of the competition was attended by Ya’qub Al-Sani’, Kuwaiti minister of Justice, minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, Sheikh Abdullah Bisfar, head of the World Association of Quran Memorization and a number of religious figures of the country.

Addressing the ceremony, the minister appreciated the efforts of the Awqaf secretariat in the organization of the competitions.

He talked about the virtues of the Holy Quran for the Islamic Ummah and said that by means of the Divine Book, God directed the Ummah from the darkness of ignorance towards the light and the right path.

Adding that the Holy Quran enlightens hearts and eliminates grief and sorrow, he noted that the main objective of such competitions is to promote contemplation in the Holy Quran and understanding the Quranic concepts.

Abdul Muhsin Al-Jarallah Al-Kharafi, Secretary General of Awqaf Office in Kuwait, also presented a speech at the program and said that the category of Quran recitation in Qalun an Nafi’ style for the visually impaired has been added to the categories of this edition of the competition.

Kuwaiti media including Quran Radio of the country broadcast the competitions live.
