Addressing a ceremony held in Beirut to celebrate the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on Friday, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah added that fighting Takfiri terrorists and extremists is not defending a nation, government or land but it is defending Islam.
“Takfiri groups attribute themselves to Islam and Holy Prophet (PBUH) but with their barbaric actions they are insulting the Prophet (PBUH), the Book of God and the Islamic Ummah,” he stated.
Nasrallah criticized those who provided backing for Takfiri terrorists and said the terrorists have now arrived in the very countries that supported them. “This was quite predictable,” he noted.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Hezbollah leader referred to the detention of senior Bahraini cleric Sheikh Ali Salman and described the move by the Al Khalifa regime as dangerous.
He stressed that the people of Bahrain’s protests have been peaceful but the regime opted for a crackdown on people.
Nasrallah went on to say that Bahrain’s regime will not be able to stop the movement of Bahraini people.
Al Khalifa authorities detained Sheikh Salman, the head of Bahrain’s main opposition party, Al-Wefaq, on December 28, 2014.
Following the massive anti-regime protests held on December 26, Bahrain's Interior Ministry had ordered Salman to appear before police investigators without providing any explanation as to why the summons was issued.
On Monday, December 29, charges of "inciting violent change of regime through threats and illegal practices," as well as "public insult of the Interior Ministry" were leveled against Salman.
Several massive rallies have been held in the Persian Gulf country to protest against the senior cleric’s detention.
