TEHRAN (IQNA) - Kelantan's Qari Wan Ainuddin Hilmi and Pahang's Qariah Siti Husnaa Hassan were crowned the Best Qari and Qariah of Malaysia's 58th National Quran Recital Assembly at Dewan Muktamar, Pusat Islam, Saturday night.

Each received cash prizes of RM30,000, a Proton Preve car, a challenge trophy, an accompanying trophy, certificate of participation and a Haj package.

Wan Ainuddin, 32, received the prizes from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, while Siti Husnaa, 23, received her prizes from Prime Minister's wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.

Also present was Malaysian Islamic Development Department director-general Datuk Othman Mustapha.

Both Wan Ainuddin and Siti Husnaa will also represent Malaysia at the International Quran Recital Assembly to be held from June 9 to 14 at the Putra World Trade Centre.

Wan Ainuddin described the victory as a huge morale booster and motivation for him to improve his recital in view of the international Qural recital competition in June.

"I will also undergo intensive Quran recital course with my teacher as part of the preparation for the international competition," he told reporters after receiving the prizes.

Meanwhile, Siti Husnaa said she could not believe her luck to be named the Best Qariah as other senior contestants were equally good.

Nevertheless, she said age was never a factor for her to compete.

"Although it will be my first time to participate in the international competition in June, I will definitely do my level best," she said.

Abdul Khair Jalil from Selangor and Azraei Abdul Hak from Melaka were the first and second runner-ups in the Qari category respectively, while Roziah Ayup from Sarawak and Nur Ruzana Natiah Jaafar from Selangor were the first and second runner-ups in the Qariah category, respectively.

The first runner-up will receive a cash prize of RM20,000 while the second runner-up gets RM15,000.

Other contestants also received consolation prizes of RM4,500 each.
