TEHRAN (IQNA) – The United States is not interested in battling ISIL as the Takfiri group is acting based on US policies by “causing chaos” in the Middle East, a political activist said.

A Tuesday report by the American newspaper Stars and Stripes questioned the “viability and effectiveness” of a $500 million program to allegedly confront the terrorists 11 months after it was initiated by President Barack Obama.

“In actuality, I don’t think the US… has any interest in fighting ISIL. ISIL is basically doing a very good job of causing chaos in the region,” said Seth Rutledge in a Tuesday interview with Press TV.

It is also pressuring Syrian President Bashar Assad, who has been “a target of the imperialist policies for years”, Rutledge said.

He referred to Abdelhakim Belhadj, the ISIL leader in Libya who was a CIA asset, saying it is “interesting” that he and ISIL leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi were “both trained in US detention camps”.

The activist described ISIL as “another mercenary group” like al-Qaeda and a “clone” of the Saudi government in terms of policies and laws.

The terrorists have committed heinous crimes and threatened all communities, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, and Christians in areas under their control in Syria and neighboring Iraq.

Government forces on both sides of the border are battling the militants while Washington has also been leading a coalition to launch airstrikes allegedly against them.

There have been reports of support for the Takfiris by some US regional allies, including Saudi Arabia.
