137 Quran memorizers from across the African country took part in the contest, held in the capital city of Maputo, WAS news agency reported.
There were four categories in the competition, namely memorization of the entire Quran, and memorization of 15 Juzes (parts), 8 Juzes and 1 Juze of the Holy Book.
It was organized by Mozambique’s Islamic Council on the occasion of the Holy month of Ramadan.
Winners of the four categories were awarded in a ceremony attended by head of the council Aminuddin Muhammad and a number of religious figures and Quranic officials.
The speaker at the ceremony congratulated the winners and encouraged all the participants to continue their efforts to master the rules of Tajweed recitation of the Quran and strive for incorporating the teachings of the Quran in their life.
Mozambique is a southern African country with a population of around 23 million. Some 30 percent of its population is estimated to be Muslim.
