Quran Competition Held in Senegal

TEHRAN (IQNA) – A Quran competition was held in Senegal with the participation of representatives from the African country’s neighbors.

The contest, which was held with by Senegal’s Muslim Youths Association in cooperation with the Iranian cultural center in the country concluded on Thursday in a ceremony in the city of Thies.


Quran memorizers and researchers from Ivory Coast, Gambia, Mauritania, Togo, Benin and Senegal competed in the two categories of the contest, which lasted for a week, IRNA reported.


Speaking at the closing ceremony, Hassan Zakeri, the Iranian cultural attache, said holding Quran competitions in the city of Thies every Ramadan shows how the citizens value Quranic activities.


He also expressed the Iranian cultural center’s readiness to cooperate with the Muslim Youths Association and the city’s institutes in Quranic activities.

 

Senegal is a country in West Africa. Muslims make up more than 90 percent of the country’s population.
