Russia to Hold Int’l Quran Competition in October

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Russian capital city of Moscow is slated to host an international competition on Quran recitation later this year.

According to tafsir.net website, 35 Qaris from different countries will take part in the Quranic event.


It will be organized by the Muftiat Council of Russia on recitation of the Quran while observing the rules of Tajweed.


Participants will compete in the city’s Corcus Expo Hall, which is one of the largest in Moscow.


In a preliminary round held to select Russia’s representative in the upcoming international competition, 8 Qaris from different parts of Russia demonstrated their Quranic skills.


Bilal Abdul Khaliqev from the Republic of Dagestan came first and will represent Russia in the October contest.

 

A number of Russian Quran experts including Ibrahim Sabirov, Iskhat Qasmatudinov and Bukunaya Qara as well as Yemeni Quran expert Izam al-Qadri formed the board of judges in the preliminary round.


Russia is a country the majority of whose population is Orthodox Christian.


According to unofficial statistics, more than 20 million Muslims live in the world’s largest country.
