Speaking to IQNA during a visit to the news agency’s central office in Tehran, Abu Tahseen al-Najjar noted that the Quran office was established soon after the creation of the Popular Forces following a Fatwa by grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani on the necessity of fighting the Takfri terrorist group.
He noted that the office organizes various programs in line with its objective of spreading the Quranic culture and teachings among the fighters of the Popular Forces.
Holding courses on Quranic concepts, recitation and interpretation as well as organizing Quran contests, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, are among these programs, al-Najjar noted.
He said that earlier this year, the office held a Quran recitation session in commemoration of those killed in the Speicher massacre.
The ISIL Takfiri militants backed by Ba’ath party members overran the Speicher military base near the city of Tikrit in Iraq’s Salahuddin Province in June 2014.
The terrorists killed around 1,700 Iraqi soldiers at the site, which was previously used as an operating base for US Air Force.
The base turned into an Iraqi Air Force academy following the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq in 2011.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Abu Tahseen al-Najjar underlined the role of Quranic centers and institutes in fostering the true teachings of the Quran and countering the deviated ideas spread by Takfiri and extremist groups.
