TEHRAN (IQNA) – Vice-president of Lebanon’s Supreme Islamic Shia Council Sheikh Abdul Amir Qabalan called for formation of a global front to save the holy city of Quds (Jerusalem) and al-Aqsa Mosque.

Issuing a statement, Sheikh Qabalan condemned the continued Israeli attacks on al-Aqsa Mosque and stressed that defending Quds and the holy mosque is a religious obligation.

He called on the world community, the United Nations, Arab League, and Organization of Islamic Cooperation to act on their responsibilities and put an end to the Zionist crimes and attacks.

Sheikh Qabalan further slammed the Arab world’s silence over the situation in the Occupied Palestine and the attacks on Islamic sanctities, IRNA reported.

Israeli forces have stormed the al-Aqsa Mosque in East al-Quds  several times in the past few days.

On Tuesday, Israeli soldiers attacked Palestinian worshipers inside the mosque, firing stun grenades and tear gas at them.

At least 20 Palestinians were injured and several others were arrested during the raid, according to a Palestinian eyewitness.

The Israeli troops also attacked al-Qibla Mosque in al-Quds, burned its gate and broke its windows. Palestinians were, however, quick to extinguish the fire.

On Wednesday, Israeli settlers, backed by the Tel Aviv regime's security forces, once again stormed the al-Aqsa Mosque.
