The covering cloth of the Ka’aba, known as Kiswa, is changed every year on the day of Arafa (9th day of Dhul Hajja on the lunar Hijri calendar).
The new cover has been prepared using some 120 kg of pure gold and silver and 700 kg of silk fiber.
The cover, inscribed with verses from the Holy Quran, is prepared by over 200 weaving experts with the cost of 22 million Saudi riyals.
It usually takes 8 months to prepare the 657 square meter covering of the Ka’aba.
The previous Kiswa, that covered four walls and the door of the Ka’aba, will be torn into pieces and gifted to foreign dignitaries.
