According to Qabas newspaper, the ceremony was held with Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, the prime minister of the country, in attendance.

Salman Sabah Salim Al-Hamoud Al-Sabah, Kuwait’s Information Minister and Head of the National Council of Culture, Art and Literature in this country said that the selection of Kuwait as the capital of Islamic culture this year shows the important status and role of the country in the Muslim world.
He appreciated the efforts of Abdulaziz Othman Al-Twaijri, the Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) in developing relation and cooperation among the member states of the organization to conduct joint Islamic activities.
He stressed that Kuwait considers the plan as an opportunity to present the true image of Islam and disseminate and establish the Islamic values such as tolerance, forgiveness, kindness, peace and moderation.
