Addressing the second
conference on the threat of Takfiri currents held in the holy city of Qom, Ali
Akbar Velayati noted that the wave of Islamic Awakening began in the early
years of the 19th century with the aim of combatting the Western
onslaught against the Muslim world.
He noted that the second wave of Islamic Awakening started with the Islamic Revolution in Iran and that countries like the US, Britain and Saudi Arabia created al-Qaeda and later such groups as ISIL to stand against this wave and the anti-Israeli axis of resistance in the region.
The second edition on the threat of Takfiri currents began in Qom, Iran, on Wednesday with the participation of senior scholars and figures, including grand Ayatollahs Nasser Makarem Shirazi and Jafar Sobhani.
It aims to identify and shed light on the Takfiri and extremist ideologies and their danger, spread moderate Islam and enhance Muslim unity.
