Algerians Sign up to Compete in TV Quran Contest

TEHRAN (IQNA) – An Algerian satellite TV network plans to hold a Quran memorization competition.

The Al-Shuruq TV will hold the contest for teenagers under 15 years of age, the echoroukonline.com website reported.

It will feature memorization and recitation of Surah al-Zuha of the Holy Quran.

Registration for the contest has begun and those interested have been invited to send an audio file of their recitation of the Surah to the network via email.

Winner of the top title will be awarded a two-week trip to the holy cities of Makkah and Medina.

Al-Shuruq TV had previously organized several religious competitions featuring memorization of the Quran and Hadiths.

Algeria is a Muslim-majority Arab country in North Africa with a population of around 40 million.

More than 99.7 percent of the country’s population adheres to Islam.
