European Quran Competition Held in Croatia

TEHRAN (IQNA) – A Quran memorization and recitation competition was organized for Quran activists of European countries at the Islamic Center of Zagreb, Croatia.

According to hqmi.org, the Islamic center held the competition in cooperation with Qatar’s Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and the Holy Quran Memorization International Organization (HQMI).

81 male and female Quran memorizers and reciters from 20 European countries competed in four categories of memorization of the entire Quran, memorization of 15 and 5 Juzes (parts) and recitation.

Sheikh Al-Hafiz Aziz Al-Laili, a Croatian religious scholar, headed the five-member committee of the Quran experts who supervised the competition.

The winners were awarded in a ceremony attended by Sheikh Shawqi Umar Bakhshish, former Grand Mufti of Croatia, representatives from the embassies of Morocco, Egypt, Qatar, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Iran, Zagreb’s Mayor, and representatives of religious organizations and institutes of the region.

Addressing the program, Sheikh Aziz Al-Laili appreciated the efforts of the HQMI in holding the Quran competition in Croatia.

The ceremony was broadcast by Ahl Quran Channel, as well as the TV channels of Croatia and Bosnia and Radio Croatia.
