In a meeting with Azeri President Ilham Aliyev on Tuesday, the Leader added that fostering the teachings of Islam and respecting religious rites will lead to people’s support for the measures against threats.
His Eminence further said the Islamic Republic of Iran views Azerbaijan beyond a friend or neighbor and regards the Azeri people as brothers.
Ayatollah Khamenei highlighted the religious common grounds between the two countries and said Azerbaijan has been a land where great Muslim scholars have emerged.
His Eminence also underscored that in order to counter Takfiri groups, Islamic activities need to be developed.
Elsewhere, the Leader said Iran attaches great importance to the Azeri people’s welfare, peace, security and political stability.
Aliyev, for his part, said Tehran and Baku have the same views on international issues and described Iran as a major player in establishment of peace and security in the world.
He also said threats against the two countries come from a single source and noted that during his visit to Tehran, the Islamic Republic of Iran and Azerbaijan have agreed to cooperate in the fight against terrorism.
The Azeri president arrived in the Iranian capital at the head of a high-ranking delegation.
During the visit, the two countries signed 11 cooperation agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs).
