Al Khalifa Regime Fails to Disrupt Bahrain’s Largest Congregational Prayers
The prayers were led by Sheikh Muhammad Sanqour at the Imam Sadeq (AS) Mosque and the streets around it in al-Daraz district, west of Manama.
Despite attempts by security forces to prevent people from reaching the mosque, a large number of Bahrainis managed to attend the prayers, making it the largest congregational prayers in the Persian Gulf country, Al-Alam news network reported.
The heavy-handed crackdown on people has been going on for years.
The country has been the scene of almost daily protests against the Al Khalifa dynasty since early 2011 when a pro-democracy uprising began in the kingdom.
Since then, thousands of pro-democracy protesters have held numerous rallies in the streets of Bahrain, calling for the Al Khalifa royal family to relinquish power.
The Manama regime has been severely criticized by human rights groups for its harsh crackdown on the people, which has claimed the lives of scores of Bahrainis so far.
