It issued a statement earlier this week, urging those interested to sign up for the contest, the Sahra Media website reported.
Nouakchott, the capital, will host the event, dubbed al-Nour, but its exact timing has not been announced.
The competition will be held in the categories of memorization and Tajweed recitation of the Holy Quran.
The Rizwan Mosque in Nouakchott will cooperate in organizing the event, which will be covered by the country’s Quranic media outlets.
The Islamic Republic of Mauritania is a country in the Maghreb region of western North Africa.
The country’s population is estimated to be about 4 million and virtually all Mauritanians are Muslims.
Quranic activities, including Quran memorization and recitation, are popular in Mauritania, especially with the younger generation.
