Jordan Int’l Quran Contest Gets Underway

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Five of the participants in Jordan’s international Quran competition for women showcased their Quranic skills on the first day of the event.

The competition kicked off in the Jordanian capital of Amman on Sunday in a ceremony attended by the Arab country’s Awqaf minister as well as ambassadors and representatives of different countries.

Representatives of the host country, Egypt, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bahrain and Malaysia went to the stage to answer the questions of the board of judges.

Iranian Quran memorizer Sama Babayi’s turn will be on Tuesday, she told IQNA.

Babayi, who is from Tehran, came first in the memorization of the entire Quran category in the final stage the Islamic Republic of Iran’s 38th national Quran memorization contest and is representing the country in the Jordanian contest.

She noted that three Quran experts from Jordan, one from Lebanon, and one from Morocco make up the board of judges.

The competition is annually organized by the Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Ministry of Jordan with the participation of Quran memorizers and reciters from different countries.

The women’s category of this year’s contest will continue until April 14 while men are scheduled to start their competition on June 25.

Mahmoud Babakhan will be Iran’s representative in the men’s category of Jordan’s Quranic event.

Last year, Iran’s Hajar Mehralian came 5th in the memorization of the entire Quran for women’s category of the 10th edition.
