TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani underlined that one of the country’s main priorities is bolstering relations with Muslim countries.

Addressing the 13th summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul, Turkey, on Thursday, Rouhani underlined the Islamic Republic’s policy of pushing for enhanced unity in the Muslim Ummah and said the only path for resolving differences and misunderstandings is through dialogue.

He also noted that Iran has always supported other Islamic countries and Muslims in the face of threats and aggression.

He elaborated on Iran’s assistance to the Muslim countries in their fight against terrorism, saying the governments of countries such as Iraq and Syria have enjoyed Iran’s support in this regard.

The Iranian president further highlighted the need for Islamic unity and said the decline of the Islamic civilization began when great Muslim powers instead of helping one another began to fight each another pointlessly and thus set the ground for foreign aggression.

Elsewhere, President Rouhani said the Muslim world should lead the way in a world coalition for peace and sustainable security.

Rouhani also regretted the continuation of the Zionist regime’s crimes against the Palestinian people and described the Tel Aviv regime as the main source of extremism and violence.

The 13th summit of the OIC kicked off in Istanbul on Thursday with leaders from over 30 countries in attendance.
